Program Overview

he Master of Engineering Studies caters for professional engineers seeking advanced technical training, and is a taught-coursework master's degree with no thesis or research requirement. The MEngSt comprises a combination of 400 and 600-level courses that enables you to study a broad range of topics in your general area of expertise.

The MEngSt may be unendorsed, or awarded endorsed in the subjects below:
- Fire Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Renewable Energy (February intake only)
The MEngSt is made up of 120 points:
- Students doing an endorsement will complete 75 points of courses at 600-level in their relevant endorsement listed within Schedule E Group 1 to the Master of Engineering, and the remaining 45 points of courses are selected from within Schedule E Group 1 or 2 to the Master of Engineering.
- Students doing their degree unendorsed need to select 75 points of courses at 600-level from any options within Schedule E Group 1 to the Master of Engineering, and the remaining 45 points of courses are selected from within Schedule E Group 1 or 2 to the Master of Engineering.
The MEngSt takes 1 year full-time or 5 years part-time. Study for the degree will normally be full-time, but you can be approved for part-time enrolment.

Entry Requirement

You will need to have completed one of the following:

Bachelor of Engineering with Honours with First or Second Class Honours
Postgraduate Certificate in Engineering with a GPA of 5 or more
Bachelor of Science with Honours with First or Second Class Honours in appropriate subjects.

Relevance and standard of previous study is the main criteria for approval.

You must have completed both the academic and non-academic requirements of your prerequisite degree. This includes practical work days, work reports, a workshop training course, and a first aid certificate. The programme of study must be approved.

English language requirements for postgraduate qualifications

If you want to study towards a postgraduate qualification, eg a Postgraduate Diploma, Masters, or PhD you must have one of the following:

IELTS Academic	An average score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in reading, writing, listening and speaking
TOEFL iBT	Total minimum score of 90, minimum score of 19 in reading, writing and listening. Please note UC only accepts TOEFL iBT scores from a single test date, not MyBest scores.
TOEFL PBT	With a minimum score of 575 and TWE with a minimum score of 4.5
CCEL EAP	Level 2 with a minimum B+ grade
CAE or CPE	Score of 176 with a minimum of 169 in reading, writing, listening and speaking
Pearson Test of English (Academic)	PTE with an overall score of 58 and no PTE communicative skills score below 50
NZCEL	Level 5
FluentIQ	Overall mark of 8/10 with nothing less than a 7 being scored in a single category.
LanguageCert	C1 Expert IESOL (LRWS) with HIGH PASS
NZAPA	English New Zealand Accredited Pathway Assessment Level 3 (with no skill lower than Level 2)
