Program Overview

This graduate programme is for those who graduated from the Bachelor of Music (or an equivalent degree) with good grades and who wish to extend themselves.

The MusB(Hons) may follow these pathways:

Composition
Musicology
Performance

It is possible to choose courses to give a more general, non-specialised degree if desired.

The degree may be awarded with Distinction or Merit.

Course Content
The Bachelor of Music with Honours takes 1 year full-time, made up of 120 points in coursework and a research project or essay. Part-time study is possible by application only.

To qualify for the Bachelor of Music with Honours, you will complete 120 points of courses, including one of:
- MUSI466 Research Project (30 points)
- MUSI480 Research Essay (Extended) (60 points)
The remaining points can be chosen from 400-level Music courses.

Entry Requirement

You must have completed the equivalent of a Bachelor of Music with at least a B Grade Point Average in your 300-level courses, and been approved to enrol.

English language requirements for undergraduate qualifications

If you want to study towards a Bachelor Degree (excluding teaching degrees), Certificate of Proficiency, Undergraduate Certificate or Diploma, or Graduate Certificate or Diploma you must have one of the following:

APPROVED ENGLISH TESTS	MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
IELTS	Academic with an average score of 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 in reading, writing, listening and speaking
TOEFL iBT	Total minimum score of 80, with at least 19 in reading, writing and listening. Please note UC only accepts TOEFL iBT scores from a single test date, not MyBest scores.
TOEFL PBT	With a minimum score of 550 and TWE with a minimum score of 4.5
CCEL EAP	Level 2 with a minimum C+ grade
CAE or CPE	minimum score of 169 with at least 162 in reading, writing, listening and speaking
Pearson Test of English (Academic)	PTE with an overall score of 46 and no PTE communicative skills score below 36
NZCEL	Level 4 - Academic endorsement
FluentIQ	Overall mark of 8/10 with nothing less than a 7 being scored in a single category.
LanguageCert	B2 Communicator (LRWS) overall with High Pass
NZAPA	English New Zealand Accredited Pathway Assessment Level 2 (with no skill lower than Level 1)
