About
The Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology, formerly known as the Nelson Technical School, was founded in 1904. At first, it provided instruction in subjects like engineering, plumbing, commerce, craft, and secretarial work. This institute merged with Nelson College in 1930, offering the students several vocational and part-time courses. Nelson Polytechnic became a stand-alone technical institute in 1971.
The New Zealand Qualifications Authority has granted authorization to the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology. Presently, it provides courses in a variety of areas, including the arts, engineering, business, computing & IT, social sciences, writing, and tourism. The total number of students enrolled at this institute during the 2019-20 academic year was 7,218. There were approximately 1,357 international students. The percentage of female students was measured at 53.30% in the same year, while the percentage of male students was 46.70%.
