Law LLB Graduate Entry

at University of Limerick

In each semester students take five modules; each module is taught through lectures (two per module per week), and generally a tutorial for each module is held every fortnight. Graduate Entry students attend lectures with the undergraduate law students. Five core modules are taken in the first semester of year 1; three core modules are taken in the second semester, together with two electives. In the second year, students choose five elective modules in each semester.

Year 1

• LA4001 Legal Systems & Methods
• LA4310 Law of Torts 1

These modules are taken in Year 1 of the programme for those who are enrolled in the two year programme. For students thats have been granted an exemption for Year 1, for example, graduates of the BA in Criminal Justice, these three modules (Contract Law 1 & 2 and Law of Torts1) are taken in Year 2 of the programme. These three modules are also required for Kings Inns. Students are not permitted to take the same module twice, if a module is taken twice, the student will be precluded from graduations and will be required to take on an extra module iun order to complete the necessary credits.

Elective Modules to be taken from the following:
 

• LA4320 Law of Torts 2, LA4922 Sport and The Law, LA4040 Law of Evidence, LA4012 Comparative Legal Systems, LA4042 Administrative Law, LA4002 Jurisprudence, LA4036 Intellectual Property Law.
• Elective subjects required for entry to the Kings Inn if interested in a career at the Bar.

Elective Modules to be taken from the following:
 

• LA4320 Law of Torts 2, LA4922 Sport and The Law, LA4040 Law of Evidence, LA4012 Comparative Legal Systems, LA4042 Administrative Law, LA4002 Jurisprudence, LA4036 Intellectual Property Law.

Year 2

Semester 3    

Choose 5 electives from the following

Semester 4

• LA4122 Contract Law 2
• Final Year Project

Primary degree or equivalent in a discipline other than law (Primary Degree: Level 8 - National Qualifications Authority of Ireland). Places on the programme are limited and entry is competitive.

Please note that this is a level 8 qualification (undergraduate).
 

• If your qualifications have been obtained in a country where English is an official language this will suffice

• If this is not available, the following additional documents must be provided:
  • English translation of your qualification(s)/transcripts
  
  AND
  
  • English language competency certificate

Tuition Fees

These are based on Residency, Citizenship, Course requirements.

Review the three groups of criteria to determine your fee status as follows
 

1. Residency
    
   • You must have been living in an EU/EEA member state or Switzerland for at least 3 of the 5 years before starting your course
      
2. Citizenship
    
   • You must be a citizen of an EU/EEA member state or Switzerland or have official refugee status
      
3. Course Requirements (all must be met)
    
   • You must be a first time full-time undergraduate (Exceptions are provided for students who hold a Level 6 or Level 7 qualification and are progressing to a Level 8 course in the same general area of study).
   • You must be undertaking a full-time undergraduate course of at least 2 year’s duration
   • You cannot be undertaking a repeat year of study at the same level unless evidence of exceptional circumstances eg serious illness is provided (in which case this condition may be waived)
