Civil Engineering (BE)

First Year

Engineering students follow a common first year which includes modules in:

• Chemistry

• Creativity in Design

• Electrical/Electronic Engineering

• Energy Engineering

• Engineering Computing

• Mathematics

• Mechanics

• Physics.
   

Second to Fifth Year

Areas of study for Civil Engineering include:

• Theory, Design and Analysis of Structures

• Hydraulic Engineering

• Treatment Processes for Water and Wastewater

• Geotechnics

• Construction Materials & Practice

• Transportation Engineering

• Highway Engineering

• Professional Engineering studies
   

A student’s week involves attending lectures, tutorials, participating in laboratory classes and undertaking project and design exercises both individually and in teams.

Coursework is continually assessed but modules also include end of trimester written examinations.

Leaving Certificate:

• H4 in Mathematics

• H6 in a laboratory science and

• O6/H7 in English, Irish and two other recognised subjects
   

Special Entry Recommendations

It is recommended that the Laboratory Science subject should be one of Chemistry, Physics or Biology
 

General Requirements

• Standard XII

• Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)

• Council for the Indian School Certificate (CISCE)

• Intermediate Exam (some state boards)

• Higher/Senior School Certificate/Examination (most state boards)

• Average is calculated on best 5 recognised subjects

• CBSE/AISSCE/CUSCE/ISC - English Language 80% OR IELTS/TOEFL or equivalent
   

IELTS

An average score of 6.5 over all components and a minimum of 6.0 in each band on the Academic Version. 
 

In 2022 and 2023 we will accept IELTS indicator. It may not be recognised after that depending on the outcome of a review.
 

TOEFL

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) 
 

A minimum score of 90 is required in the Internet based TOEFL (iBT) with no less than 21 in writing and at least 19 in every other section.

In 2022 and 2023 we will accept TOEFL Home Edition. . It may not be recognised after that depending on the outcome of a review.

The fees for Civil Engineering (BE) may vary from €25,600 to €30,000 anually for tuition fees. The fee's prices may get higher for international students.

Graduates can also apply for taught and research Master’s in UCD, including Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering, Water, Waste & Environmental Engineering and Engineering with Business. Graduates can also apply for positions in PhD research programmes.
