Program Overview

If you’re interested in Agricultural Science but are not yet certain of which area to specialise in, you can select the No Preference (NPF) option on your CAO form. Then, during your ﬁrst year at UCD, you can choose your area of specialisation. If you receive an oﬀer on the Agricultural Science programme, you’ll be guaranteed a place in any of the eleven specialisations from second year. If, on the other hand, you know which of the following areas you’d like to specialise in, you can select one of these areas on your CAO application. The degree specialisations oﬀered are:

First Year

Core subjects include:
- Animal Biology & Evolution
- Introductory Chemistry
- Mathematics for Agriculture
- Physics for Agricultural Science
- Agricultural Economics & Business
- Introduction to Biomolecules
- Cell & Plant Biology
- Information Skills
- Optional Modules.
Second & Third Year

You specialise in one of the programme areas listed above and detailed on the course pages.

Students spend an average of 40 hours a week attending lectures, tutorials and laboratory-based practicals, and undertake independent study.

A combination of continuous assessment and end-of-trimester written examinations is used. Certain modules also require project work.

General Requirements

Standard XII

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)
Council for the Indian School Certificate (CISCE)

Intermediate Exam (some state boards)
Higher/Senior School Certificate/Examination (most state boards)

English Language Requirements

CBSE/AISSCE/CUSCE/ISC - English Language 80% OR IELTS/TOEFL or equivalent

IELTS
- An average score of 6.5 over all components and a minimum of 6.0 in each band on the Academic Version.
- In 2022 and 2023 we will accept IELTS indicator. It may not be recognised after that depending on the outcome of a review.
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
- A minimum score of 90 is required in the Internet based TOEFL (iBT) with no less than 21 in writing and at least 19 in every other section.
- In 2022 and 2023 we will accept TOEFL Home Edition. . It may not be recognised after that depending on the outcome of a review.
