The M.Phil. in Film Studies: Theory, History Practice strand comprises 60 ECTS of taught modules and a 30-ECTS research component. It is a unique opportunity to embark upon a detailed investigation into the intellectual currents and aesthetic concerns surrounding the study of film and digital media. From the outset, questions of history, theory and context are brought to bear on issues of close analysis and interpretation. Elective modules in Screenwriting, Creative Documentary and Editing allow students to balance film theory and history with practice. In addition to the one-year full-time programme, the M.Phil. in Film Studies: Theory, History Practice strand is offered part-time over two years.

Candidates should have a good honors 1st class or 2.1 B.A. degree (minimum "B", average 3.2 or above for North American students) or equivalent qualification with a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 with no individual band below 6. Applicants to the Film, Theory, History strand must include a sample of their academic writing (approximately 1500 words) in film studies or a related area as part of their application. Applicants to the Screenwriting strand must include a 5-10 page sample of their creative writing as part of their application.

The fees for M.Phil. in Film Studies - Theory History Practice may vary from €10,000 to €25,000 annually for tuition fees. The fee's prices may get higher for International Students.
