First Year Studies Modules
 

Year 2

In the second year you will focus on skills acquisition across a range of processes. Traditional printmaking is explored as well as the most up-to-date approaches of digital image manipulation. Projects are set with an emphasis on the use of the appropriate process for the expansion of ideas and their tangible expression.
 

Year 3: Studio + & International

Studio+ is an optional year between the second and final year of your degree. Open to all Fine Art students, it offers the opportunity to gain experience in a range of social and cultural contexts in the world beyond NCAD. This experience will be gained through work with different organisations with links to the School of Fine Art and will help you to build your skills as an artist. Studio+ can also include a period of study abroad through the Erasmus programme with internationally recognised art faculties partnered with NCAD.

Final Year

In the final year the focus is on using the skills and knowledge you have acquired to develop a personal art practice. You will develop a substantial project that will form part of your professional portfolio of work, which you will present
in the final year degree exhibition. Throughout all years, time is devoted to studies in Visual Culture where you will learn ways to situate your own practice in the contemporary world. You will be helped to develop your skills in visual literacy, expression and articulation. Students study the connections between history, theory and practice, in modern and contemporary contexts, in order to become reflective and effective practitioners.

Leaving Cert: 6 Subjects (2 X H5 and 4 X O6/H7)
 

• Subjects must include English, Irish and one of the following:  a third language or Art or Design & Communication Graphics (DCG)

FETAC: 5 Distinctions Full Award

English Language Requirement
 

International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
 

• An average score of 6.5 over all components and a minimum of 6.0 in each band on the Academic Version.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) 
 

• A minimum score of 90 is required in the Internet based TOEFL (iBT) with no less than 21 in writing and at least 19 in every other section.
