Semester Schedules

For admission to a programme, standard applicants must

• score the necessary CAO points and

• meet the minimum entry requirements

• Leaving Certificate examination in six subjects i.e. H5 in two subjects, and O6/H7 in four other subjects. The six subjects must include Mathematics, and either English or Irish.
   

A number of places are usually available to mature students and other non-standard applicants. Selection is by way of shortlisting and competitive interview which is informed by equality legislation and equal opportunities.  

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
 

RPL is when formal recognition is given for what you already know prior to starting on a programme or module. With recognition of prior learning, the focus is on learning and not on experience as such. You can apply for RPL in any MTU accredited programme or module. Any recognition of prior learning will be considered on a case by case basis by the Head of Department with the assistance of the programme team, and the RPL Officer. The student will need to evidence how their prior learning maps to the full complement of Learning Outcomes for a particular module to facilitate achievement of the Standards of Proficiency for Social Care Workers. Please note: MTU uses the National Vetting Bureau (NVB) to help assess the suitability of all applicants on this programme. It is important to note that participation in or completion of this programme may be affected by subsequent disclosure/discovery.

Depending upon the outcome of the vetting process, the Institute reserves the following rights:

• to not register a student

• to remove an existing registered student

• to delay the student’s practice placement modules.

  Info re MTU Mathematics Exam only:
   

Some students who apply to MTU courses may not achieve the required entry standard in Mathematics through the Leaving Certificate. For such applicants, MTU offers a second chance to reach the required entry standard through a MTU Mathematics Exam. This second chance facility allows applicants (depending on their results in the MTU Mathematics Examination) to gain entry to courses with an Ordinary Leaving Certificate Mathematics entry standard, and (with a higher level of performance) courses with a Higher Leaving Certificate entry standard. 

Leaving Cert Subjects:

• Helpful subjects include English and Business

L1: At least 6.0 with no section below 5.5
 

TOEFL

L1: At least 80 - with minimum scores: Listening- 17; Reading - 18; Speaking – 20; Writing - 17

The fees for Montessori Education BEd (Honours) may vary from - €10,000 to €25,000 anually for tuition fees. The fee's prices may get higher for international students.

The BEd (Hons) in Montessori Education programme will combine key theories with applied research and practical skills to afford graduates appropriate knowledge, practices and values to work as professionals in a wide range of settings in the ECEC and School Aged Childcare (SAC) sectors. Specifically, graduates will be qualified to work as ECEC practitioners and managers, SAC practitioners and managers, and Montessori Teachers in both early childhood and primary education settings, amongst many more related areas.
