Semester Schedules

For admission to a programme, standard applicants must

• score the necessary CAO points and

• meet the minimum entry requirements
   

Leaving Certificate in six subjects i.e. H5 in two subjects, and O6/H7 in four other subjects. The six subjects must include English, Irish, Mathematics, and a Laboratory Science Subject*.
 

Info re MTU Mathematics Exam only:

Some students who apply to MTU courses may not achieve the required entry standard in Mathematics through the Leaving Certificate. For such applicants, MTU  offers a second chance to reach the required entry standard through a MTU Mathematics Exam. This second chance facility allows applicants (depending on their results in the MTU  Mathematics Examination) to gain entry to courses with an Ordinary Leaving Certificate Mathematics entry standard, and (with a higher level of performance) courses with a Higher Leaving Certificate entry standard.

The fees for Applied Physics & Instrumentation (BSc) (Full-time) (Level 7) BSc may vary from  - €10,000 to €25,000 anually for tuition fees. The fee's prices may get higher for international students.

The excellent career opportunities open to graduates at the various levels reflect the broad interdisciplinary scope of a curriculum that includes electronics, computing and mathematics along with physics and instrumentation.

The streams available in the BSc (Honours) in Applied Physics and Instrumentation course enable students to specialise whilst retaining their interdisciplinarity. The course has a strong engineering orientation with many graduates establishing careers as Instrument Engineers and Automation Engineers by continuing their studies to honours degree level. This education broadens the perspective of the student and helps to develop their design capabilities.

Typically, 95% of graduates find employment in Ireland across various sectors of industry, including: computing (24%), electronics (18%), engineering services (31%) and the chemical industry (8%).
