About

The University of Quebec at Chicoutimi (UQAC) is part of the larger University of Quebec network, a government-run institution that offers college, undergraduate, and graduate programmes. The university was founded in 1969, though its history dates back to pre-Confederation. Chicoutimi, the hometown of the university is located in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region which is in the Canadian province of Quebec. Chicoutimi has a population of over 69,004 people, therefore, becoming one of the largest cities in the region. It's famous for its natural beauty: you can go hiking on foot or by bicycle or skiing. In 2005, UQAC introduced programmes for international students in collaboration with institutions from countries like China, Senegal, Morocco, Lebanon, Colombia, and Brazil. Through its École de langue française et de culture québécoise, UQAC also presents a range of French as a Second Language programme (School of French language and Quebec culture). 

UQAC specializes in the natural sciences and social sciences, with a focus on training teachers for French schools. It also offers several professional programmes. Some classes are offered in English. Campuses include the Chicoutimi campus (2200 Boulevard Saint-Joseph), which includes classrooms; residence halls; student services buildings; athletic facilities; library/computer labs; faculty offices. The University of Sherbrooke erected a medical school building on the campus of UQAC in 2006, enabling its students to enrol at UQAC for other programmes including biology.

People from regions of Alma, Saint-Félicien, Sept-Îles, and Charlevoix have been allowed to study in their respective locations thanks to UQAC since 1971. Such study centres provide courses in a range of subjects in ways that promote part-time study, with the goal of facilitating access to university education. Students are able to enrol in distance learning courses because of multimedia rooms.
