Athletics:

The Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association first accepted the Seawolves in 1993, the same year they fielded their men's and women's soccer teams as well as their women's basketball team. The men's basketball team and the men's and women's volleyball teams joined the ACAA the following year, bringing UNBSJ's total of varsity teams to six, which it maintains to this day. Due to the school’s shut down in 1996, UNBSJ requested the withdrawal of all of its teams. However, the next year, in 1997, it requested reinstatement, which the ACAA approved.

In 1995, the men's volleyball team earned the first conference title in program history, and they followed that up with victories in 2009 and 2010. In 1996, the women's volleyball team won the conference title. The men's and women's soccer teams for the Seawolves won conference titles in 2002 and 2003, respectively. In 2001, the women's team won the ACAA conference.

Clubs:

The University of New Brunswick in Saint John offers students the chance to participate in club sports for their university.  Men's football, women's ice hockey, men's and women's rugby, women's field hockey, and men's football are among the sports offered as of 2021. In addition, all club teams dress in red and black, with the exception of the football team, which wears blue and white.

Football:

Barry Ogden, who wanted to introduce a football team to Saint John so that athletes between the ages of 18 and 24 could play in the area after high school, founded the Seawolves. Ogden started looking into the program's viability in 2006, and in 2009, the Seawolves started competing in the Atlantic Football League's debut season after organizing with clubs in Moncton and Fredericton.
