About
The University of Manitoba (U of M, UManitoba, or UM) is a public research university in Canada's province of Manitoba. It was Western Canada's first university, established in 1877. With several campuses spread out over the city, its main campus is situated in Winnipeg's southern Fort Garry neighbourhood. The University of Manitoba is the largest university in Manitoba and the 17th largest in all of Canada, both in terms of overall student enrollment and campus size. It operates in three more significant locations in addition to the Fort Garry campus, which serves as its principal hub: the Bannatyne Campus, the James W. Burns Executive Education Centre, and the William Norrie Centre. It is worth noting that the University of Manitoba's acceptance rate stands at 50-52% making it moderately competitive to get into.
Over 60 significant teaching and research buildings make up the university's main Fort Garry campus, which is located on the Red River in south Winnipeg at 66 Chancellors Circle. The University of Manitoba's "Inner City Social Work Program" is housed on the grounds of the William Norrie Centre at 485 Selkirk Avenue. The program is intended for adult, low-income Winnipeg residents who are at least 21 years old, have volunteer experience in the inner city, and who require assistance with their academics. A branch of the Faculty of Social Work on the Fort Garry campus is located in Thompson, Manitoba, and offers a Bachelor's program called the Northern Social Work Program.
