Work Study

• Students can work for 20 hours per week during the regular academic year and full-time during scheduled breaks.
• If their program does not have scheduled breaks, the students will be limited to working 20 hours per week. 
• An immigration officer may apply conditions on the type of work students may perform.
• For example, they must pass an immigration medical examination before they begin work in health care, child care, or primary or secondary education.
   

The Bachelor of Media Studies is a cohort-based, multidisciplinary program that provides students with a broad foundation and knowledge in the many disciplines that make up media studies. With competencies in theory, research, and application, the Media Studies program builds a foundation for a rewarding and dynamic academic or professionally oriented career. The program equips students to become creative, critically reflective, and socially engaged citizens.

Courses cover an exceptionally broad range of disciplines, including:

• Art History and Visual Art
• Creative Writing
• Journalism
• Film Studies/Film Production
• Information Studies
• Critical Theory (English Department)/(German Department)
• Computer Science
   

Subject to competitive academic average and portfolio submission, you can apply for entry to the four-year program direct from high school.
 

Experiential learning and research
Media Studies students have the opportunity to participate in media-related co-op and internship positions. Core courses each year include a community-based experiential learning component, where students are partnered with local community organizations to connect classroom learning with hands-on projects.
 

Students are encouraged to study abroad in their third year or gain work experience through UBC’s Work Learn and Co-op programs. Students have many opportunities inside and outside the classroom to work on projects that add to their portfolio of work, such as with The Ubyssey, the weekly student newspaper on UBC’s Vancouver campus, or with the 300+ student clubs.

Academic Eligibility:

• Graduation from high school
• Minimum of 70% in Grade 11 or Grade 12 English (or their equivalents)
• At least six academic/non-academic Grade 12 courses (recommended, but not required)
   

Indian student eligibility:
 

General admission requirements for Indian students are:

• Graduation from a university-preparatory program at a senior secondary school: Higher Secondary School Certificate awarded on completion of Standard XII. Certificates must be official. Photocopies are acceptable if certified by the school principal, head, or counselor. Notarized copies are not acceptable.
   

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
 

VISA

• Student Visa and Visitor Visa (Optional) is required to study in Canada. 
• The student visa is a document that the Canadian government issues that allow foreign nationals to study at institutions in Canada.
• A student visa is usually valid for the length of the student’s study program, plus an extra 90 days. The 90 days lets the student prepare to leave Canada or apply to extend their stay.
• The cost of the student visa is 112 USD.
• The students need these documents to apply for a student visa:
  • Proof of acceptance i.e The offer letter that the student received from the university.
  • Proof of identity 
  • Proof of financial support i.e Documents showing the financial status.
• Student Visa Process:
  • Apply for admission with a DLI, pay the tuition fees, and receive an acceptance letter from the DLI.
  • Check if a study permit is required. eTA is required for all international applicants who wish to travel to Canada.
  • Prepare all the documents required for applications
  • Purchase GIC
  • Apply for the applications
  • Undertake the medical exams
  • Schedule biometric appointment and interview.

The fees for Bachelor of Arts [B.A] (Media Studies) may vary from $7,000 to $20,000 anually for tuition fees. The fee's prices may get higher for international students.
