Work Study

• Students can work for 20 hours per week during the regular academic year and full-time during scheduled breaks.
• If their program does not have scheduled breaks, the students will be limited to working 20 hours per week. 
• An immigration officer may apply conditions on the type of work students may perform.
• For example, they must pass an immigration medical examination before they begin work in health care, child care, or primary or secondary education.
   

Economics is the study of how people, institutions, and nations manage resources such as time, money, and materials. In this program, you will increase your skills in deductive reasoning, abstract and critical thinking, and your understanding of the historical, cultural, and social context of economic institutions, policies, and events. Economists study how behaviour reflects and responds to incentives.
 

Experiential learning and research

You have the opportunity to participate in the annual Roger Watts Advocacy Debate as part of a student team, with prizes of $1,000 for the first-place finishers and $500 for the runners-up.
 

In your coursework, you have abundant research opportunities, including learning the techniques of empirical economic research, and completing independent readings and research as part of a directed studies course. The Irving K. Barber Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences holds an annual undergraduate research conference on UBC’s Okanagan campus to showcase these student research projects.

Academic Eligibility:

• Graduation from high school
• Minimum of 70% in Grade 11 or Grade 12 English (or their equivalents)
• At least six academic/non-academic Grade 12 courses (recommended, but not required)
   

Indian student eligibility:
 

General admission requirements for Indian students are:

• Graduation from a university-preparatory program at a senior secondary school: Higher Secondary School Certificate awarded on completion of Standard XII. Certificates must be official. Photocopies are acceptable if certified by the school principal, head, or counselor. Notarized copies are not acceptable.
   

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
