Overview

About

St. Francis Xavier University’s history began in 1853 when the Society of Jesus founded the university. The motto of StFX is “Gaudia Certa Caritas,” which means “joyful and certain charity.” This motto was chosen because it reflects the Christian values that have been present at this institution since its inception. The university offers an acceptance rate of 75%.

St. Francis Xavier University, Nova Scotia is a public university located on the St. Francis Xavier Peninsula in Cape Breton Island, Canada. It is a beautiful campus with a passion for quality in both academics and athletics. In addition to having Gaelic and Acadian roots, the university town's population is more diverse. The county is bordered by magnificent beaches on its coastlines and is full of rolling hills and lovely farmland.

The colours blue and white in the university’s logo symbolize excellence in academics as well as athletics. The school utilizes a semester-based academic calendar with 15 weeks of lectures, seminars, and labs per academic year. The four-year system consists of two semesters: Winter Session (January to April) and Summer Session (May to August).

Students may also choose to pursue their studies over one or shorter terms called "trimesters." A trimester is equivalent to one month in duration and can be taken as either an extension or replacement for the standard semester length if desired by students who wish not to have their entire education completed within this time frame. The university offers undergraduate programs in fields such as business administration, nursing education, engineering technology, and computer science (which includes information systems). The programs here are apt for international students who want to study at Canadian institutions without having to go through the rigorous application process required by some other universities.

The campus is home to several buildings, including

  • Macdonald Hall (built in 1936)
  • Macdonald Building (built between 1964 and 1967)
  • Balfour Hall (built between 1989 and 1991)

St. Francis Xavier University Placements

The StFX Faculty of Education takes pleasure in turning out exceptional learners who value harmony across theory and practice. The practicum lasts for twenty-two weeks over two years, or eleven weeks each. Learners spend five weeks in the fall session, which takes place in November and December, and six weeks in the spring session, which takes place in March and April. The entire province of Nova Scotia is where students are assigned to work after placements. In the first six months after graduating, 87% of graduates find work. The university's career centre hosts a variety of activities and workshops for students. To prepare the students for a job interview, mock interviews are held. Additionally, the career centre hosts a number of Career Connection events and career fairs where students can network with employers.

Scholarship

Regardless of the programme you are studying, there are several scholarship opportunities provided by the St. Francis Xavier University as well as other organisations. With so many scholarships available now, overseas students can greatly lower the financial burden of studying in a new country. You can apply for scholarships to study at the university through UniScholars. You can find the following types of scholarships based on your academic performance and financial situation:

  • Merit-based scholarships
  • Need-based scholarships
  • Country-specific scholarships
  • College-specific scholarships
  • Student-specific scholarships

Finances

Most international students are obligated to show proof of sufficient funds in order to obtain a visa. While some students may have the opportunity to make use of scholarships, not all students cut the eligibility to get a scholarship or a grant. Moreover, not all scholarships cover 100% of your study abroad expenses. At such times, most students resort to acquiring education loans to avoid the financial hassles associated with studying at the University of Toronto. For Indian students, UniCreds is the ideal education loan marketplace if you’re looking for low-interest rates and free consultation services!

Accommodation

There are several student housing options available for students planning to attend the St. Francis Xavier University. You may select from a wide choice of affordable yet elegant student flats, halls of residence, studios, ensuites, and more! You have the option of staying on campus in the university halls of residence or in a private residence. Because of their proximity to the university, on-campus housing options may be ideal; nevertheless, they tend to fill up fast and are more expensive.

UniAcco simplifies the process of finding student housing and offers a variety of options. As a result, students can select from a wide range of available student accommodations near the university, such as luxury studios, en-suites, and shared apartments that are more inexpensive and student-friendly.
