Overview

About

Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry of the Western university is one of six dental schools in Ontario and one of 17 medical schools across Canada. Like every other medical school in Canada, the institution places a strong emphasis on a patient-centred approach to medicine by exposing freshmen to clinical techniques in the first few weeks. With the fourth-highest match rate in Canada in 2012 (95.9%), Schulich has routinely performed well in residency matches.

Western University's Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry was established in 1881, and the dental school was added in 1964. In 1997, the two combined to create a single Faculty. In appreciation of a $26 million contribution from Seymour Schulich, the school was renamed the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry in 2005. The gift primarily supports annual scholarships for students studying medicine, dentistry, and graduate-level medical science.

Each year, the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry receives over 2000 applications for its MD programme, of which 450 are invited to interviews for 171 openings (133 London campus and 38 Windsor campus). The Schulich School of Medicine has a very competitive admissions process, just like other Canadian medical schools. More than ten times as many people apply to the school as there are openings. Schulich received 14 applications for every opening in the 2012–2013 cycle, with an acceptance rate of under 7%.

  • Merit-based scholarships
  • Need-based scholarships
  • Country-specific scholarships
  • College-specific scholarships
  • Student-specific scholarships

Finances

Most international students are obligated to show proof of sufficient funds in order to obtain a visa. While some students may have the opportunity to make use of scholarships, not all students cut the eligibility to get a scholarship or a grant. Moreover, not all scholarships cover 100% of your study abroad expenses. At such times, most students resort to acquiring education loans to avoid the financial hassles associated with studying at the university. For Indian students, UniCreds is the ideal education loan marketplace if you’re looking for low-interest rates and free consultation services!

UniAcco simplifies the process of finding student housing and offers a variety of options. As a result, students can select from a wide range of available student accommodation near the John Molson School of Business, such as luxury studios, en-suites, and shared apartments that are more inexpensive and student-friendly.

Cost of Living

The city of London is in southwestern Ontario along the Quebec city corridor. There are 422,324 people living in the city. With the University of Western Ontario (which refers to itself as "Western University") and three large hospitals—Victoria Hospital, University Hospital, and St. Joseph's Hospital—London serves as a regional hub for healthcare and education. Although the city offers a variety of musical and artistic exhibitions and festivals that boost its tourism industry, its economic activity is mostly focused on information technology, manufacturing, financial services, and medical research.
