About
Royal Roads University, usually known as RRU or Royal Roads, is located in Victoria, British Columbia. It was established in 1995 and is situated on Vancouver Island's Hatley Park which is a National Historic Site. The British Columbian government established RRU as a public university with an applied and professional degree-granting concentration after the decommissioning of Royal Roads Military College in 1995. Alumni of RRMC is regarded by the institution as being a member of the larger alumni group. The university became a public institution of higher learning in June 1995. For Homecoming 2011, a replica of Horatio Nelson's famous adage, "Duty is the great business of a naval officer: All private considerations must give way to it regardless of how hard it is," was brought back to the university campus.

RRU was regarded as the top public institution for a collaborative and active learning experience and for the level of academic challenge in the 2011 National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). The university also received marks in specific categories from The Globe and Mail's Canadian University Report alongside 55 other institutions. Facilities
On the campus of Royal Roads University facilities include a Campus Welcome Desk, parking, Food Services, Library, Bookstore, Campus Learning Spaces, Sneq’wa E’lun, Multi-Faith Spaces, Recreation Areas, and a Campus Store for students to have comfortable and convenient university life. The Department of National Defence leases the property to the university for one dollar a year, and it is responsible for all site stewardship duties, including managing the site's finances and operations, protecting, preserving, and restoring its heritage assets, which include all of the site's buildings and numerous heritage gardens, as well as informing the public about the area's natural and historic features.
The RRU Museum is situated on the lower level of Hatley Castle. The Royal Roads Military College, its previous cadets, and its location are the focus of the museum's mission to collect, conserve, investigate, and display artefacts related to their histories. The Organization of Military Museums of Canada Inc. and the Canadian Museums Association both recognize the Royal Roads Military College Museum as a member institution. The Canadian Forces Museum System has approved The Royal Roads Museum as a museum. To help with projects, the museum has established a cooperative society for students.
