About
The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) is a medical school located in Canada. It is a collaboration between Lakehead University in Thunder Bay and Laurentian University in Sudbury. The school was established in 2005 with the mission of addressing the shortage of physicians in Northern Ontario and the unique healthcare needs of the region's diverse population.
NOSM is unique in that it is the only medical school in Canada that has a distributed, community-engaged, and decentralized education model. It has 3 faculties where all of its students are integrated which are:
- Faculty of Clinical Sciences
- Faculty of Human Sciences
- Faculty of Medical Sciences
NOSM has 30 spots for undergraduates and 41 spots for postgraduate students in all. Students admitted are offered a four-year undergraduate medical education programme leading to the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. The school also offers a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree and a number of continuing professional development opportunities for physicians and healthcare professionals. NOSM also has a strong focus on research, with several research centres and collaborations with other universities and organizations. NOSM has several facilities that support the education and training of its students and healthcare professionals. Some of the facilities offered at the school include:
- Classrooms and Lecture Halls: The school has modern classrooms and lecture halls equipped with the latest technology, such as interactive whiteboards, projectors, and computers.

Northern Ontario School of Medicine Entry Requirements
Some of the prerequisites which students need to submit are given below:
- Applicants need to make a mandatory and non-refundable application fee payment of CAD 220.
- It is crucial to upload all NOSM applications through the Ontario Medical School Application Service (OMSAS).
- All certificates from the applicant's time in college, CEGEP, university, junior college, or graduate school must be sent electronically or by mail.
- Applicants must provide documentation proving their Canadian citizenship.
- All international transcripts must be evaluated by Canadian WES (World Education Services).
- References from a minimum of three people must be supplied by the deadline.
- NOSM does not accept students from other countries. To be admissible to apply, all applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents (landed immigrants).
