About
Laurentian University is a mid-sized bilingual university in Greater Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. Laurentian University attracts students from across Canada with an acceptance rate of 65%. The school's proximity to Sudbury and the high quality of education make it a popular choice for many people looking for a university experience. Students enjoy small class sizes, which means that professors can spend more time helping them learn.
As a "non-denominational, bilingual institution of higher learning," a university federation made up of delegates from the Roman Catholic, United, and Anglican churches were established in 1960. Up until the opening of its current site in 1964, the new Laurentian University had classes in the University of Sudbury building as well as in a number of other venues in the city, such as the Sudbury Steelworkers Hall.
The Francophone environment is another draw for many students: nearly 80% of undergraduate students identify as francophone or bilingual, compared with only 28% who identify as Anglophone or non-Bilingue (those who speak English but don't know French). Laurentian's French identity is further highlighted when it hosts the annual congress of the Association francophone ‘pour le Savoir (Acfas), a French-language conference whose attendees hail chiefly from academia and research. The event, which takes place in February each year, brings together academics from all over Ontario to discuss issues in their fields; there is also an awards ceremony where students can submit their own work for an award. The Acfas conference has been held at Laurentian since 1992 and attracts more than 1,000 participants each year.
With over 30,000 students studying on their three campuses at Greater Sudbury, Hearst and Sudbury as well as online through our Learning Management System (LMS), the university offers an innovative learning environment that encourages students to explore their interests while they develop their knowledge base through a wide range of disciplines. Laurentian also features the east campus of Canada's newest medical school—the Northern Ontario School of Medicine—which opened in 2005. The school attracts students from across Canada.
The university has a large number of student clubs and organizations, including
- The Laurentian Student Union (LSU) is an autonomous student organization that acts as a liaison between students and faculty members at Laurentian University.
- LSU provides services to its members ranging from providing information about classes offered by faculty members to organizing social events such as movie nights and barbecues
Laurentian offers more than 75 undergraduate programmes including Business Administration; Engineering & Computer Science; Social Work & Social Sciences; Health Sciences & Related Programmes; Humanities & Community Arts Studies and Creative Arts Management with bachelor’s degrees ranging from two years – four years depending on the programme chosen or even longer if you want to study abroad.

Finances
Most international students are obligated to show proof of sufficient funds in order to obtain a visa. While some students may have the opportunity to make use of scholarships, not all students cut the eligibility to get a scholarship or a grant. Moreover, not all scholarships cover 100% of your study abroad expenses. At such times, most students resort to acquiring education loans to avoid the financial hassles associated with studying at the University of Toronto. For Indian students, UniCreds is the ideal education loan marketplace if you’re looking for low-interest rates and free consultation services!
