About
The First Nations University of Canada was established in 1976 when the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations entered into a federation agreement with the University of Regina to establish the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College (SIFC). The Saskatchewan Indian Federated College was renamed the First Nations University of Canada on June 21, 2003. (FNUniv). The university has campuses in Regina, Saskatoon, and the Northern Campus
The university was created by Indigenous leaders to meet the educational needs of Indigenous people across Canada. The institution has forged affiliations with academic institutions serving Indigenous peoples in Canada, South, and Central America, Asia, and over twenty-five other countries since 1983. SIFC had nine students and conducted the following courses when it initially started operating in the fall of 1976: Indian Studies, Indian Languages, Indian Teacher Education, Social Work, Fine Arts (Indian Art, Indian Art History), and Social Sciences.
The university is located in Saskatchewan a prairie province in Canada. It has an acceptance rate of more than 80%, making it one of the nation's more moderately selective universities. FNUniv offers bachelor's degrees in 15 fields across four faculties: Arts & Science; Business & Law; Health Sciences; Social Sciences. It also provides master's degrees in five disciplines: Education; Indigenous Governance Studies; Indigenous Community Development; Creative Arts & Media Industries Management (CAMIM) as well as science-based research programmes such as Masters in Public Policy Analysis (MPPA).
Ranking
The First Nations University of Canada is ranked 89th in Canada. The world ranking, however, puts it at position 6246. The Saskatchewan Ministry of Advanced Education gave it official recognition. In the field of education, FNUC has won a number of accolades.

Facilities
The university provides its students with parking facilities, well-equipped computer labs, and computer facilities in libraries (accessible on all three campuses). In addition to traditional sessions, students can benefit from tutoring programmes and writing centres where they can hone their writing abilities. A women's centre, a centre for student success, and the UR Pride Center for diversity and gender equality are also available within the institute. These organisations all seek to promote the success, fundamental rights, and well-being of students.
- On its campuses in Regina, Saskatoon, and Prince Albert (Northern), the First Nations University of Canada has libraries that offer specialized print and e-resource collections and initiatives to help the academic programmes that the University offers. Any FNUniv student, employee, or faculty member has access to library materials.
- Only the Regina campus is home to an on-campus housing complex provided by the university. There are no residences on the Northern or Saskatoon campuses. Five different housing options are available on the Regina campus: Kisik Tower, La Cite, Paskwaw & Wapka Tower, Luther College, and College West. There are amenities in every residence, including lockers, bike storage, TV rooms, internet access, laundry facilities, game, and music rooms, etc.
- All parking on FNUniv’s Regina campus is paid whereas camping on Saskatoon and Northern Campuses is free. Parking is managed and monitored through the university’s management portal.
- The University bus and supermarket bus, which transport students for weekly grocery shopping, are one of the incentives of FNUniv.
