Cape Breton University

In the 2022 Maclean rankings for predominantly undergraduate institutions, CBU is ranked 19th, while in their reputational survey, it is ranked 46th. In their assessment of 2021 students' happiness, the university came in sixth place overall. Additionally, two engineering programs are accredited by the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists (CCTT), and all four nursing program tracks are accredited by the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN). CBU is based on a single campus in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada, which is known for its beautiful terrain, welcoming culture, and long legacy. The university’s campus facilities comprise approximately 17,000 square feet and include research laboratories, workshops, administrative blocks, reading rooms, and a few auditoriums that serve as hubs for all university events, festivals, and competitions.

The Beaton Institute, housed at the university, is Nova Scotia's second-biggest public archive. Sister Margaret Beaton of Scotland began collecting these records in 1957, after noting that many documents of value to Cape Breton were being lost due to negligence during her tenure as a librarian at Xavier Junior College. The Beaton Institute, which succeeded Cape Bretoniana, serves as a regional archive for and about Cape Breton Island's history, society, politics, economy, health, people, places, and events. The 17,000-square-foot structure houses a reading room, vault, and work area, as well as various offices and speciality rooms. Paper records, photographs, film, video, audio materials, books, maps, plans, and microfilms comprise the collection, which has 3,000 manuscript collections, 60,000 images, 2,500 sound recordings, 1,500 video cassettes, and film reels, 1,500 reference books, and 2,000 maps and plans. Library: The library, along with the main cafeteria, Art Gallery 1, and Boardmore Theatre, is located close to the Campus Center. Aside from the main collection, the library has twelve special collections, including a thesis repository, the Bernier LGBT Collection, the Fortress of Louisbourg Collection, and the F.A.C.E. Collection, which gives access to the faculty publications and contributions. There is also an archive of Cape Breton Post and Chronicle Herald publications on microfilm, which can be viewed by the first floor's microfilm readers. 

Students Union: The Emergency Bursary Fund, funding, and management of societies, health, and dental plans, food banks, women's centers, pride and ally centers, multicultural hubs, capers helping capers, the orange initiative, caper convenience stores, free legal services are just a few of the services offered by the Cape Breton University Students' Union. It is the largest employer of students on campus and focuses mostly on advocacy on behalf of its members.

Student Representative Council (SRC): The SRC serves as the Union's board of directors. It is a group of students chosen to represent the university's diverse student body, including its numerous schools. They get together frequently to vote on motions presented to the SRC by members or the students.

Athletics: The CBU Capers is the university’s representative in the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) organization. Men's and women's basketball and soccer teams make up the Capers' four varsity sports programs.
