Overview
About
Camosun College (CC) is a public university situated in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The Young Building was constructed as Victoria's first normal school in 1914 on a portion of land owned by the Hudson's Bay Company that is now a part of the Lansdowne Campus. This was the beginning of college and around 275 students were enrolled in the school at the time. The Young Building was transformed into a military hospital during World War II. The structure was put back to use as an educational facility shared by Victoria College and the Normal School in 1946 after they had joined forces.
The Greater Victoria School Board founded the Institute of Adult Studies in 1967, the same year that the Normal School and Victoria College relocated to the Gordon Head Campus of the University of Victoria. The Institute of Adult Studies was the first institution in Canada to provide daytime classes for adults looking to upgrade to a high school diploma, and it was housed in the Ewing Building.
Camosun College’s acceptance rate is around 80% with 14,000+ students enrolled across its two campuses, Lansdowne and Interurban (including Professional Studies and Industry Training). Additionally, the college offers contract training for regional businesses, services for industry in terms of research, innovation, and prototyping, as well as trained co-op students for companies.
In addition to career, technical, and vocational programs in the fields of the arts, sciences, business, Indigenous studies, dental hygiene, and dental assistant programs, the Lansdowne campus also offers university transfer and access programs. These programs are offered in access, business, trades, technology, sport, and exercise education, and health and human services at the Interurban site.
