Overview

About

Brescia University College is Canada's only women's university, and it is located in London, Ontario. It has a long history of academic excellence. It has been training women for careers in business, education, and health care since 1878 when it was founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph - a religious community dedicated to helping others through education and service. As Canada’s oldest institution for women, BUC celebrated its 130th anniversary in 2018. BUC has grown to be one of Canada's top institutions for higher learning. The university started with only thirty-five boarders on opening day. Since then Brescia has continued its tradition of academic excellence while also building on its heritage by offering various undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes which combine academic coursework with experiential learning opportunities.

Brescia offers a distinctive liberal arts-based education. The students learn from highly qualified faculty while being part of a community that encourages them to reach their full potential as individuals and leaders. The school prides itself on providing a supportive environment for women leaders through its academic program but also through extracurricular activities related to entrepreneurship as well as leadership development opportunities such as the Brescia Women’s Leadership Council (BWLC).

Students at Brescia University College speak of the "Brescia effect". They feel that they are treated differently by professors because they are women, and this has a positive impact on their learning experience. For example, in history class, students say that they have been asked to explain why war is bad and what it means to be a woman. They also say their professors refer to them as “ladies” rather than “girls” or “women” (as they would at other Canadian universities). The college states that it provides an environment where everyone feels safe from harassment and discrimination based on gender expression, race and ethnicity, gender identity; and many other factors.

Finances

Most international students are obligated to show proof of sufficient funds in order to obtain a visa. While some students may have the opportunity to make use of scholarships, not all students cut the eligibility to get a scholarship or a grant. Moreover, not all scholarships cover 100% of your study abroad expenses. At such times, most students resort to acquiring education loans to avoid the financial hassles associated with studying at the University of Toronto. For Indian students, UniCreds is the ideal education loan marketplace if you’re looking for low-interest rates and free consultation services!
