About
Bishop's University (BU) is an English-language liberal arts university located in Lennoxville, Quebec, Canada. George Mountain, the Anglican Bishop of Quebec and the first president of McGill University, founded the university. It is one of three institutions in Quebec that primarily educate in English (the others being McGill University and Concordia University, both in Montreal). In the 1840s, it was founded by integrating the Lennoxville Classical School as Bishop's College School. The university was established in 1843 and was granted a royal charter by Queen Victoria in 1853.
Bishop’s University acceptance rate stands at 70% to 75% with around 2,500+ full-time students out of which 25% are international students. It is one of Canada's few primarily undergraduate universities, operating similarly to an American liberal arts college, and is affiliated with three others in the Maple League. It was associated with the University of Oxford in 1853, where several professors at BU were appointed from. From its inception until 1947, the school was run by the Anglican church. It has been a non-denominational institution since that time. BU has had fifteen Rhodes Scholars graduate.
The university was named first in Canada for student satisfaction for three consecutive years, and Maclean's magazine ranked it seventh in Canadian predominantly undergraduate universities. Champlain Institution in Lennoxville (an English-language public college) shares a campus with the university. The alumni include Jim Corcoran (Singer), Steve Zatylny (Former Football Player), Ralph Barker Gustafson (Professor and Poet), Norman Webster (Journalist), Steve De Eyre (Head of Public Policy, Amazon), Linton Carter (Chief Development Officer of UNICEF, Canada) and many more.

Facilities
The Bishop campus is made up of 25 structures, which are situated on 220 hectares (550 acres) of property at the confluence of Saint Francis and Massawippi rivers in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. BU’s location on a grassy knoll at the meeting of two rivers offers a conducive environment for viewing architecture as an essential but secondary component of the picturesque scene. Centennial Theatre: It was founded in 1967 as a performing arts institution with the mission of providing a theatrical and cultural platform for English-speaking citizens of the Eastern Townships. The theatre mixes the large auditorium architecture of a Greek amphitheater.
Library & Archives: The university library was housed in a building which was attached to the McGreer Hall in 1909. It was separated into two levels and converted into office space in the 1970s, with the hardwood ceiling covered in tiles. In preparation for the Sesquicentennial festivities in 1993-1994, the library wing was restored to its original design. The University Archives and the Eastern Townships Research Centre have collections in the Old Library, which include books, genealogical information, papers, pictures, postcards, maps, plans, and audio-visual material. The space also serves as a venue for lectures, parties, special events, and quiet study.
Library Learning Commons: The Library Learning Commons, formerly known as the John Bassett Memorial Library prior to substantial renovations completed in 2018, provides study and research support for both BU and Champlain College. The current structure was constructed in 1959 and expanded in 1970, 1990, and 2017. The Library has around 5,98,000+ items in its collection, including books, microforms, and audio-visual materials, as well as approximately 19,550+ periodical titles, including online journals.
Art Gallery: The Foreman Art Gallery at BU showcases contemporary and historical paintings, sculptures, mixed media, installations, videos, and films by students, teachers, and Canadian and international artists. The collection, which is displayed around campus buildings, includes 150 paintings by Canadian painters from the 19th and 20th centuries.
The Old Lennox Golf & Ski Club: It is a golf course and cross-country ski club located on the university’s campus. BU formed the club, which was chartered by the Royal Canadian Golf Association in 1897. The course is still one of Canada's oldest. The club has around 7 kilometers of cross-country ski routes, approximately 5 kilometers of which are certified by the Fédération Internationale de Ski (FIS).

Bishop's University Entry Requirements
BU accepts students in the fall, winter, and summer semesters. The university accepts applications from students from all around the world. BU provides diplomas, undergraduate, and graduate programs in areas such as arts, science, and business. Applicants can apply for any degree or course they want to pursue through the university's online site. The application or admission cost for any program or course is CAD 65. Academic Requirements for UG & PG Programs:
- 12 years of formal schooling for undergraduate students, 16 years (honors degree) for undergraduate students
- Minimum 70% for undergraduate students and a CGPA of 7.5 for postgraduate students
