About
Founded in 1967, Algonquin College is an English-language college located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. This institution is the result of the union of the Ontario Vocational Center, founded in 1965, and the Eastern Ontario Institute of Technology, founded in 1957.
The college's goal is to help people turn their aspirations into successful lives. At its campuses in Ottawa, Perth, and Pembroke, Ontario, Algonquin enrolls more than 20,000 students, and tens of thousands more study online. The College, which provides programmes in everything from health to business, media and design, trades and technology, heritage trades, public safety, community studies, hospitality and tourism, outdoor adventure, and more, is the largest vocational training institution in Eastern Ontario.
The college has three campuses; a primary campus located in Ottawa, Ontario, and secondary campuses located in Perth, Ontario, and Pembroke, Ontario. The college's main campus is located in Ottawa with satellite sites in Kanata (Oshawa), Cornwall (Brantford), and Pembroke. The college also has a presence at Camp Aylmer near Kingston where students can take courses while they are away from home.
The college Learning Centre on Carling Avenue offers courses through distance learning technology including video conferencing facilities that allow students to participate in classroom activities using their own computer equipment or tablets connected by Wi-Fi networks provided by the college’s Information Technology Department.
The College, which has completed over 50 years as a pioneer in postsecondary education, has experienced substantial development since its founding and is still growing today. Major expansion projects have just been finished on all three Algonquin campuses. New buildings have been constructed on the Perth and Pembroke campuses, and the Ottawa campus now has a cutting-edge DARE District and Library.

Facilities
Facilities at Algonquin College include a gym, fitness centre, swimming pool, and squash courts. There are also several computer labs for students to use. Students can access these facilities during regular class times or at lunchtime if they want to use them before or after class ends. The college also has a cafeteria and a student lounge for people to relax and interact with each other when they’re not in class.
The college has a library that houses over 120,000 items in print and electronic format as well as provides access to databases such as LexisNexis Academic Database (LND) which contains all Canadian legal case law since Confederation up until the present day. Algonquin also has its own bookstore and post office.
