Program Overview

Make a difference to future generations as a primary or secondary school teacher.

The Master of Teaching is a pre-service teaching degree that gives you the skills and knowledge to teach in a primary or secondary school setting. The degree is designed to build upon tertiary qualifications and experience, enabling students to complete a teaching qualification in as little as 18 months with our new fast track options.

Your studies are informed by internationally renowned research in English literacy, inclusive education, arts and creativity, regional and rural education, and other areas inspired by the unique challenges and opportunities of education in Tasmania.

This course is accredited through the Tasmanian Teachers Registration Board and is recognised in all Australian states and territories. Practice your teaching skills in a safe and supportive environment with 60 days of professional experience placements in classrooms, graduating with the confidence to inspire the next generation.

If you select a secondary teaching specialisation you'll choose two curriculum teaching areas, which are determined by the Major or Specialisation undertaken in the your undergraduate degree.

Course Content
The Master of Teaching requires the completion of 200 credit points in either the Primary or Secondary stream.

Both streams can be completed full-time or part-time over 2-5 years or through a Fast-Track pathway over 18 months for students commencing in Semester 1.

In the Master of Teaching (Primary) you will complete
- 200 credit points of core units and;
- three Professional Experience placements.
In the Master of Teaching (Secondary) you will complete:
- 137.5 credit points of core units and;
- 12.5 credit points of degree elective units;
- 25 credit points for the first teaching specialisation;
- 25 credit points for the second teaching specialisation
- three Professional Experience placements.
Entry Requirement
In addition to the entry requirements listed above, international students who are nationals of a country where English is NOT the official language, evidence of an IELTS or TOEFL test must be provided. The Master of Teaching requires an (IELTS) average of 7.5 with no band lower than 7.0 and Listening and Speaking at 8.0.

Course cost based on a rate of $32,033 AUD per standard, full-time year of study (100 credit points).

Graduates of Master of Teaching are deemed to be qualified to teach in public and private sector schools in all states and territories of Australia by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership.
