The Master of Medicine (Metabolic Health) is a highly practical degree that has been designed to help students to develop a comprehensive understanding of the aetiology, diagnosis and multidisciplinary treatment of metabolic diseases.

Almost two in three adult Australians are overweight or obese, with obesity the second highest contributor to the burden of disease (both ill health and premature death) after dietary risks. Equally as important, diabetes is estimated to affect 1.7 million Australians, with one person developing diabetes every five minutes. Management options for both of these conditions are growing but are also becoming more complex.

Admission to the Master of Medicine (Metabolic Health) requires a medical degree from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification.

Tuition Fee for International Students (Year 1): $54,000 (indicative only)

For international students, the tuition fee is for Year 1 of full-time study of 48 credit points (1.0 EFTSL). However, for courses that require completion of less than 48 credit points (Sydney Professional Certificates, Graduate Certificates and some Graduate Diplomas which are less than 48 credit points), the fees indicated are based on the total credit points required for completion of that course as listed in the 'Course details' section.

This indicative tuition fee is subject to annual increase each year of your study, effective at the start of each calendar year.
Career Prospect
Students with excellent results may be eligible to enrol in the Master of Medicine (Advanced) and complete a 12 credit point research project. Students are guided through the steps to plan and execute a substantial research project, and prepare a scholarly work which may be a paper for publication.
