Master of Health Policy

The Master of Health Policy consists of 48 credit points (cp), including six core units (36cp) of which 6cp is a health policy project, and two elective units of study (12cp). You may be allowed to undertake elective units outside the prescribed list with the approval of the course coordinator and unit coordinator.
 

The Master of Health Policy has one unit - 'Evidence into Policy and Planning' - that is taught in block intensives – with the remainder taught online. This unit is taught in 2x 2-day intensives, on a Friday and Saturday making it easy for people working full time, or living interstate, to participate.

• HPOL5000 Health Policy and  Health Economics
• HPOL5001 Health Systems and Financing
• HPOL5003 Analysing Health Policy
• HPOL5007 Global Health Policy
• HPOL5008 Evidence into Policy and Planning
• HPOL5009 Health Policy Project.
   

Electives include, but are not limited to:

• HPOL5006 – Business and Health
• HPOL5012 – Leadership and Strategy in Health
• HPOL5014 – Foundations of Health Technology Management.

Admission to the Master of Health Policy degree requires:
 

• a bachelor's degree with first or second class honours from the University of Sydney, or equivalent qualification and a minimum of 1 year of work experience in a health or policy related field; or
• completion of the requirements of the embedded graduate certificate; or
• completion of the requirements of the embedded graduate diploma, or equivalent qualification.
   

In exceptional circumstances the dean may admit applicants without this qualification who, in the opinion of the school, have qualifications and evidence of experience and achievement sufficient to successfully undertake the award.

Tuition Fee for International Students (Year 1): $54,000 (indicative only)
 

For international students, the tuition fee is for Year 1 of full-time study of 48 credit points (1.0 EFTSL). However, for courses that require completion of less than 48 credit points (Sydney Professional Certificates, Graduate Certificates and some Graduate Diplomas which are less than 48 credit points), the fees indicated are based on the total credit points required for completion of that course as listed in the 'Course details' section.

The Master of Health Policy enables graduates to work at a high level across the health sector, whether it be in government and policy roles, leading health services, or working in advocacy, strategy, political advisory, regulation, or business development. 
 

There are many employment opportunities for health policy graduates to work in a range of organisations across different spheres. These include:

• commonwealth and state departments of health, 
• area health services, 
• local health service providers, 
• non-government service providers and, 
• community and consumer-based advocacy groups.
