Program Overview

This degree will provide you with an understanding of public relations theory and practice at a time when new styles of management and the democratisation of workplaces demand higher proficiency in communication skills from practitioner.

You'll gain the critical and strategic thinking required to engage stakeholders in priority initiatives in a complex media environment where the boundaries between information, entertainment, image and politics are increasingly blurred. Drawing on disciplines such as organisational communication, social theory and political studies, the course reveals the role of public relations in shaping identities, dispersing power, and creating knowledge. You will graduate equipped to apply your creativity in practical ways, and be confident of making your mark in this dynamic and exciting profession.

Course Content
The Graduate Diploma in Strategic Public Relations requires the satisfactory completion of 48 credit points including:
- a minimum of 24 credit points of core units of study; and
- a maximum 24 credit points from elective units of study. With the permission of the Degree Coordinator a maximum of 6 credit points can be taken as elective units from units of study outside those listed in the Strategic Public Relations subject area of the Postgraduate Unit of Study Table.
Under normal progression, a full-time student completes prescribed units of study to the value of 24 credit points per semester. Part-time students may undertake prescribed units of study up to the value of 12 credit points per semester. You are required to attend all lectures, tutorials and other activities prescribed for your units of study.
Entry Requirement
Admission to candidature for the Graduate Diploma in Strategic Public Relations requires:
- a bachelor's degree with a minimum 60% average calculated over the whole degree, from the University of Sydney, or an equivalent qualification; or
- completion of the Graduate Certificate in Strategic Public Relations with a minimum credit (65%) average, or an equivalent qualification.
You can progress from the Graduate Diploma to Masters in the same subject area, after successful completion of the shorter course.

Tuition Fee for International Students (Year 1): $45,000 (indicative only)

For international students, the tuition fee is for Year 1 of full-time study of 48 credit points (1.0 EFTSL). However, for courses that require completion of less than 48 credit points (Sydney Professional Certificates, Graduate Certificates and some Graduate Diplomas which are less than 48 credit points), the fees indicated are based on the total credit points required for completion of that course as listed in the 'Course details' section.

The tuition fee that you will pay depends on the calendar year in which you undertake your study in the course, and your study load.
This indicative tuition fee is subject to annual increase each year of your study, effective at the start of each calendar year.
