Program Overview

This degree will provide you with core media skills to help you become an effective communicator across health and medicine, public affairs, public relations, community relations and journalism.

Designed for aspiring and experienced communicators, health advocates, public relations specialists, media experts, and healthcare professionals, the course encourages development of skills in:

clear communication of public health campaigns and policy topics
creation of public education programs that nurture a more healthcare-literate population
the ability to raise awareness of, and advocate for, specific healthcare matters
management of communication technology, including social media, to ensure information accuracy and uphold ethical standards

Course Content
The Graduate Diploma in Health Communication requires the satisfactory completion of:
- a minimum of 24 credit points of core units of study; and
- a maximum 24 credit points from elective units of study. With the permission of the Degree Coordinator a maximum of 6 credit points can be taken as elective units from units of study outside those listed in the Health Communication subject area of the Postgraduate Unit of Study Table.
Completion requirement

Under normal progression, a full-time student completes prescribed units of study to the value of 24 credit points per semester. Part-time students may undertake prescribed units of study up to the value of 12 credit points per semester. You are required to attend all lectures, tutorials and other activities prescribed for your units of study.
Entry Requirement
Admission to candidature for the Graduate Diploma in Health Communication requires:
- a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney with a minimum 60% average calculated over the whole degree, including a major in a relevant subject area in the humanities, social sciences or public health, or an equivalent qualification; or
- completion of the requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Health Communication with a minimum credit (65%) average, or an equivalent qualification.
You can progress from the Graduate Certificate to a Graduate Diploma or Masters, or from a Graduate Diploma to Masters in the same subject area, after successful completion of the shorter course.
Fees & Scholarships
Tuition Fee for International Students (Year 1): $47,500 (indicative only)

For international students, the tuition fee is for Year 1 of full-time study of 48 credit points (1.0 EFTSL). However, for courses that require completion of less than 48 credit points (Sydney Professional Certificates, Graduate Certificates and some Graduate Diplomas which are less than 48 credit points), the fees indicated are based on the total credit points required for completion of that course as listed in the 'Course details' section.

The tuition fee that you will pay depends on the calendar year in which you undertake your study in the course, and your study load.
This indicative tuition fee is subject to annual increase each year of your study, effective at the start of each calendar year.
