• An undergraduate degree in any discipline that has at least one full year of full-time equivalent study relevant to one or more learning areas of the primary school curriculum. Most undergraduate degrees cover one or more of these required learning areas, meeting this requirement; and

• Completion of the Teacher Capability Assessment Tool (TCAT) prior to applying. TCAT results are assessed as part of your application.

• Meeting these requirements does not guarantee selection.
   

PROGRESSION REQUIREMENT
 

The Commonwealth Government of Australia now requires all students undertaking initial teacher education courses in Australia to pass a literacy and numeracy test. The test is not an entry requirement into this course.
 

SELECTION
 

In ranking applications, the Selection Committee will consider:
 

• prior academic performance; and

• the results of the TCAT.

To work in schools as a primary teacher graduates can apply for provisional registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT).
