Master of Applied Econometrics

The Master of Applied Econometrics will provide a comprehensive curriculum covering core microeconomics and macroeconomics, and a suite of econometrics offerings including time series analysis, financial econometrics, microeconometrics, macroeconometrics and structural econometric modelling.

The Master of Applied Econometrics program consists of 16 semester-length subjects comprising:

• 5 core subjects (62.5pts)
• 5 electives (62.5pts)
• 2 capstone subjects (25pts)

Semester 1

Students must complete ALL of the following Core subjects:

• Data Wrangling and Visualisation
• Basic Econometrics
• Forecasting in Economics and Business

Semester 2

Students must complete the following Core subject:

• Advanced Data Analysis
• Applied Microeconometric Modelling
• Time Series Analysis and Forecasting
• Quantitative Analysis of Finance I

In order to be considered for entry, applicants must have completed:

• An undergraduate or postgraduate degree with a strong analytical and mathematical component with a major in social science, commerce, or stem with a weighted average mark of at least H2B (70%). A first-year statistics subject must have been completed; and
• A 500-word personal statement outlining why they wish to be considered for the course; and
• The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) unless the applicant has completed an undergraduate degree in Australia or New Zealand or met one of the approved conditions for GRE exemption.
• Meeting these requirements does not guarantee selection.

In ranking applications, the Selection Committee will consider:

• Prior academic performance; and
• The GRE score unless the applicant has completed an undergraduate degree in Australia or New Zealand or met one of the approved conditions for GRE exemption; and
• The personal statement.
