About
The University of Divinity is a collegiate university in Australia that specialises in divinity. It is made up of eleven theological colleges representing eight denominations. The university, founded in 1910, is affiliated with a wide range of churches in Australia, including the Anglican, Baptist, Lutheran, and Roman Catholic churches. The University of Divinity is the direct successor to the Melbourne College of Divinity, Victoria's second-oldest degree-granting authority. In Box Hill, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, the university's chancery and administration are located.
Melbourne College of Divinity applied to the Victorian Regulation and Qualifications Authority in 2010 for permission to function as a self-accrediting "Australian University of Specialisation." The Victorian government approved the application on August 30, 2011, and the college began operations as a university on January 1, 2012. In April 2012, Peter Sherlock was appointed as the university's first vice-chancellor. TEQSA (Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency) stretched the seven-year licence to operate as a university for an additional three years in May 2019, bringing the total to ten years before a review.
