Program Overview

The Master of Applied Accounting is a one year program for graduates who wish to equip themselves with essential accounting knowledge and skills, integrated with critical analysis and business research capabilities, that are fundamental to decision making in industry, government and private practice and highly valued by employers. The program is designed for graduates with prior studies in business or economics disciplines and provides them with a strong knowledge base in the core accounting areas and a choice of capstone courses. Students with prior accounting studies can also choose to study advanced accounting courses, including specialist elective courses in public sector accounting, tax and auditing. Students seeking CPA Australia or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand accreditation are referred to the Master of Professional Accounting or Master of Accounting.

Course Content
Program Structure:

The Masters of Applied Accounting requires completion of 48 units which must consist of:

30 units from completion of the following compulsory courses:
- BUSN7008 Financial Statements and Reporting
- BUSN7031 Management Accounting and Cost Analysis
- BUSN7050 Corporate Accounting
- BUSN7052 Commercial Law
- BUSN8801 Commerce Research Project
A minimum of 6 units from completion of courses from the following list:
- BUSN7017 Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility
- BUSN8003 Advanced Managerial Decision Making
- BUSN7005 Contemporary Issues in Accounting
- BUSN7045 Corporate Governance
A maximum of 12 units from completion of courses from the following list:
- BUSN7057 Business Association Law
- BUSN7051 Accounting Analytics
- BUSN7036 Financial Statement Analysis
- BUSN7006 Public Sector Accounting and Reporting
- BUSN7049 Corporate Financial Reporting

Entry Requirement
Admission Requirements

At a minimum, all applicants must meet program-specific academic/non-academic requirements, and English language requirements. Admission to most ANU programs is on a competitive basis. Therefore, meeting all admission requirements does not automatically guarantee entry.

Applicants must present either:
- a Bachelor degree or international equivalent in a cognate discipline with a minimum GPA of 5.0/7.0; or
- a Bachelor degree or international equivalent with a minimum GPA of 5.0/7.0 in a non-cognate discipline AND a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in a cognate discipline
