Scholarship Overview

Instituted almost 50 years ago, the Oxford and Cambridge Society of India (OCSI) is a not-for-profit alumni organization based in New Delhi, India. This scholarship programme awards students undergoing undergraduate, second undergraduate, graduate study and research in any subject available at the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford, UK. This scholarship is open to Indian students who are pursuing their Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at the University of Cambridge. This merit-based scholarship offers winners Rs 2,00,000/- to help combat the high cost of studying abroad. 

Students can also expect to receive the below support also:

  • Letter of support from OCSI for other scholarship awarding bodies.
  • Complimentary life membership of the Oxford and Cambridge Society of India.
  • Mentoring, whereby a member of OCSI shall play the role of a mentor and will support the OCSI scholar during his/her stay at Oxford/Cambridge by giving appropriate guidance to the awardee. It shall be the endeavor of the Oxford and Cambridge Society of India to identify a mentor who shares some interests with the OCSI scholar.

Shortlisting Process

The selection of scholars for The Oxford and Cambridge Society of India Scholarships- University of Cambridge involves a multi-stage process. The scholars will be selected after a thorough assessment of merit of all the applicants. The selection process includes:

  • Applicants will be invited for an Interview. Candidates who are shortlisted for the interviews shall be informed in June 2020. The decision of the OCSI Scholarship Committee on the short-listing and selection of candidates shall be final.

Terms and Conditions

The continuation of the scholarship depends on the good academic performance of the scholars in the examinations conducted by their respective universities.

Renewal cases of stipend holders who are not promoted to the next year will not be considered for further renewal.

 

Eligibility

  • Must be a citizen of India.
  • Must be ordinarily resident in India.
  • Must be not more than 30 years of age on 1 September of the year of application for the award.
  • For a postgraduate course or a second undergraduate course, applicants must be a graduate of an Indian university (applicants who are expected to graduate in the year of the award are also eligible to apply for the awards). For a first undergraduate course, must be a graduate from an Indian school/high school/junior college.
  • Must have applied for and secured admission to study a full-time course at the University of Cambridge. Candidates are required to present proof of admission before granting the scholarship, and proof of having taken up residence at Cambridge before the scholarship funds would be released.
  • Must intend to pursue a course of study that is one of the following:
    • The research leading to the Ph.D. degree.
    • One-year post-graduate courses (e.g. MPhil, LLM, Diploma, CASM or Part III Maths, MBA, PGCE, etc).
    • Taught and research-based Masters programs of various durations (including M. Sc., engineering, medicine).
    • Second Bachelor's degree as an Affiliated Student/Senior Status.
    • Bachelor's degree program.
  • Must be admitted to the University of Cambridge through the University’s normal academic procedures. OCSI cannot admit students or assist in this process.
  • Scholarships are awarded on the basis of the candidate’s academic excellence, a good fit between the Scholar and the University, evidence of leadership potential, and a commitment to improving the lives of others, particularly in India.
  • Candidates who have already received commitments for full outside support should not apply; those who receive such support after being selected are required to inform the Oxford and Cambridge Society of India, so that the scholarship award(s) may then be offered to the next-ranked candidate.
