How To Apply

  1. Complete the FAFSA. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid determines your eligibility for all federal, state and UT need-based aid programs. First-time applicants should complete the FAFSA as soon after Oct. 1 as possible for the following academic year.
    • Submit the FAFSA online at fafsa.gov. Remember to complete the signature requirements described in the instructions. Filing online is the best method for reducing errors and processing time. However, if you need a paper application, call (800) 4-FED-AID.
    • IMPORTANT: List UT, Tampa, FL, on your FAFSA so your information is sent directly to UT. The federal school code for UT is 001538. Estimate your income taxes if not completed yet.
    • Dependent students must report parental information on the FAFSA. Learn more about dependency status.
    • Apply early. Aid is awarded on a funds-available basis.
  2. Review your Student Aid Report (SAR). After filing the FAFSA or renewal application, you’ll receive a Student Aid Report from the U.S. Department of Education's Central Processing System to the address on your FAFSA application. If you filed electronically, the SAR is sent to the email address on your FAFSA application. Learn more about the SAR and award notification.
  3. Re-apply each year. You must re-file the FAFSA every year. Aid generally is renewed if you demonstrate satisfactory academic progress, financial need (based on the result of your FAFSA renewal application) and funds remain available. Learn more about financial aid renewal.
