Global Study Awards
Scholarship Overview
Global Study Awards is a Merit-based scholarship programme that was started co-jointly by the British Council, the International Student Identity Card Association, and StudyPortals. The aim of this scholarship is to help promising students to pursue an undergraduate or postgraduate degree that will help them bring about positive change in the world. This is a scholarship programme that is recommended for students who have successfully taken the IELTS exam and show exceptional promise. Students can consider this scholarship if they plan to use their IELTS results to apply to a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate program in an English-speaking country. Every year, two winners are selected to receive the award. The maximum individual award is for £10,000 which would be paid directly to the higher education institution where the applicants plan to study.
Shortlisting Process
The selection of scholars for the Global Study Awards involves a multi-stage process. The scholars will be selected after a thorough assessment of merit of all the applicants. The selection process includes:
- An interview (via Skype) prior to the final winning selection.
Terms and Conditions
The continuation of the scholarship depends on the good academic performance of the scholars in the examinations conducted by their respective universities.
Renewal cases of stipend holders who are not promoted to the next year will not be considered for further renewal.
Eligibility
- Interview - Strong applicants will be shortlisted and invited for an interview (via Skype) prior to the final winning selection
- The Global Study Awards will be available to prospective students in all countries worldwide
- Applicants:
- must be 18 years or over on the study programme start date
- must have taken an IELTS test at a British Council centre, and receive an official Test Report Form (TRF) issued by the British Council after the 1st of June 2017
- must have a valid International Student Identity Card(ISIC) and/or International Youth Travel Card (IYTC) at the time of application
- must be planning to enrol on a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate programme abroad in the autumn term
- The Global Study Awards is designed to support highly motivated, talented individuals who can actively demonstrate:
- their potential to contribute to society through their studies;
- a strong commitment to developing their career;
- their sincere interest in increasing intercultural understanding and exchange

This scholarship needs a separate external application.
Application Documents
- An acceptance letter from the relevant institution by the relevant cut-off date.
- A short review of your study experience.
- Valid International Student Identity Card (ISIC) and/or International Youth Travel Card (IYTC).
