Scholarship Overview

The Alberta Innovates Graduate Student Scholarships (Computer & Chemistry) are awarded by the University of Calgary in Canada. The main aim of this scholarship programme is to support high caliber students undertaking full-time graduate studies in areas of research important to Alberta. This scholarship is applicable for the following courses at University of Calgary in Canada - 

  • Master of Science in Computer Science
  • Master of Science in Chemistry

Shortlisting Process

The selection of scholars for the Alberta Innovates Graduate Student Scholarships (Computer & Chemistry) involves a multi-stage process. The scholars will be selected after a thorough assessment of all the applicants. 

Terms and Conditions

The continuation of the scholarship depends on the good academic performance of the scholars in the examinations conducted by their respective universities.

Renewal cases of stipend holders who are not promoted to the next year will not be considered for further renewal.

 

Eligibility

  • All students enrolled in a thesis-based graduate degree programme
  • Eligibility for MS in Computer Science:
    • Prerequisites: Theory of Computation; Software Engineering; Systems (OS, Compilers, Distributed Systems, Networking); Application (AI, Graphics, Databases, etc.). The cumulative GPA for these courses must be at least 3.30
    • A four-year bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or equivalent from a recognized institution with a minimum GPA of 3.30 in the last two years (i.e., last 60 units) of the undergraduate programme
    • Post-degree CS courses may be considered when calculating GPA. Exceptions to GPA requirement may be considered for students with either: Demonstrated research excellence, or GRE General scores of at least 600 verbal and 750 quantitative and either 720 analytical (old test format) or 5.5 (new test format)
    • Students applying with a specialization in Software Engineering will be assessed on qualification as in a four-year bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, but with a GPA of 3.00 and at least three years relevant experience in the software industry following the bachelor’s degree
  • Eligibility for MS in Chemistry:
  • A four-year bachelor degree, or equivalent from a recognized institution
    • A minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 point system, over the past two years of full-time study (a minimum of 10 full-course equivalents or 60 units) of the undergraduate degree
    • A Graduate Programme Director may exempt an applicant whose first language is not English from the ELP requirement if they meet the following criteria:
  • The student has completed one of the following degrees in an institution where the sole language of instruction and examination is English:
    • a Bachelor’s Degree (minimum of 3 years in length), or  
    • a Graduate Degree
  • Eligible institutions must be listed as providing English language instruction in the World Higher Education Database (WHED)
