There’s no fixed date for TOEFL results. That’s because the exam runs all year round. Your official TOEFL result will appear in your ETS account within 4 to 8 days of your test date. You’ll see the exact result date once you complete the TOEFL iBT or Home Edition exam. If you’ve taken the TOEFL Home Edition, your result will still be available online in 4 to 8 days.
Your scorecard will include four separate scores: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. Each section follows a score scale of 0 to 30. These are then added up to a total TOEFL score, ranging between 0 and 120.
ETS releases your scores between 4 and 8 days after your test, no matter which version you take. This applies to both the TOEFL iBT and the Home Edition.

Every university sets its own TOEFL score cut-off. If your score meets or exceeds that cut-off, you qualify for the next stage of evaluation. A strong TOEFL score boosts your chances in competitive courses and scholarship selection.
A total score above 100 (out of 120) is usually considered strong. Top global universities often expect applicants to fall within this range.
The total TOEFL score is the sum of all four sections. Each section holds equal weight in assessing your academic English proficiency.

Your TOEFL score remains valid for two years from the test date. Universities will not accept expired scores, so plan your test accordingly.
When you register for the TOEFL test, you can send your scores to up to four universities at no extra cost. This is included in your exam fee. If you want to send your scores to more than four institutions, you must pay an additional fee for each extra report.
If you send your TOEFL scores to universities at the time of registration, you won’t be eligible to request a score review for the Writing or Speaking sections later.
During registration, you choose up to four free score recipients. ETS sends official score reports to these universities roughly 11 days after your test date. If you want to add more recipients later, you can order additional score reports online for a fee. You may also consider ETS’s Value Pack, which offers a discount when sending five or more additional reports.
The fee per additional report is approximately INR 1,950. You can pay via debit card, credit card, e-check, or PayPal. Once your request is confirmed, ETS will send your scores within 3 to 5 business days.
There are three main ways your scores can reach universities. Each has its own delivery time:

ETS® Data Manager |
6 to 8 days |
Scorelink® Service |
8 to 10 days |
Postal Mail |

Your TOEFL score reflects your ability across four key English skills. To interpret your score accurately, it helps to understand how each section is marked.
Reading Section
This part tests your ability to comprehend academic texts. You will face 30 to 40 questions based on reading passages. The computer scores this section, which ranges from 0 to 30. You have between 54 and 72 minutes to complete it.
Listening Section
You’ll listen to lectures, conversations, and classroom discussions. The section contains 30 to 40 questions. Like Reading, the computer awards a score between 0 and 30. You get 41 to 57 minutes for this section.
Speaking Section
This section includes four tasks that are evaluated by human raters. Each task is scored from 0 to 4. These scores combine and convert to a scaled score out of 30. Your responses are judged on clarity, development of ideas, and effective communication in English. You have 17 minutes to complete this section.
Writing Section
Two tasks form this section. Human scorers assess your grammar, vocabulary, content accuracy, and overall completeness. Each task is scored between 0 and 5. These are summed and converted to a 0 to 30 scale. Your writing should show clear organisation and precise language use.
ETS provides clear proficiency levels for each TOEFL section to help you better understand your performance. These levels highlight your strengths and areas where you might need to improve. Knowing where your score fits can guide your preparation or university application decisions.

If you feel your TOEFL total score does not reflect your true performance, you can request a review of your Writing and/or Speaking section scores. This option is available within 30 days of taking the test.
The fee for reviewing one section is US $80. If you want both Writing and Speaking sections reviewed, the total cost is US $160. Once your request and payment are received, the review typically takes up to three weeks to complete.
Understanding how your TOEFL score compares to IELTS and PTE scores can help you evaluate your English proficiency across different tests. The table below provides an approximate comparison between these exams.
You must take each test individually to obtain an official score. This comparison helps you see where you might stand if you decide to take another English proficiency exam.
