Program Overview

The Master of Arts in Community Music is a one year, full-time postgraduate programme. It offers a comprehensive grounding in the skills and knowledge needed to function as a successful community musician in a range of contexts. The course is aimed at musicians who want to extend or develop the abilities needed to facilitate the expressive work of others and work effectively with a wide range of people in diverse settings. Students attain practical perspectives and hands-on experiences in the emerging field of Community Music in conjunction with developing the skills required to realise projects from their inception to their final execution. The course includes: new music skills, groupwork, fundraising, evaluation, project development and entrepreneurism. The course considers and addresses the growing interest in Community Music throughout the world.

Semester 3:  MD5522 Final Presentation 

  • Primary degree in a suitable discipline with first or second class honours or an approved equivalent qualification (Primary degree: Level 8 - National Qualifications Authority of Ireland). Or an equivalent capability based on prior professional experience.
  • A performance audition and interview will be required in all cases. Additional audio, visual or written material may be required.

Tuition Fees

Review the three groups of criteria to determine your fee status as follows
 

  1. Residency
     
    • You must have been living in an EU/EEA member state or Switzerland for at least 3 of the 5 years before starting your course
       
  2. Citizenship
     
    • You must be a citizen of an EU/EEA member state or Switzerland or have official refugee status
       
  3. Course Requirements (all must be met)
     
    • You must be a first time full-time undergraduate (Exceptions are provided for students who hold a Level 6 or Level 7 qualification and are progressing to a Level 8 course in the same general area of study).
    • You must be undertaking a full-time undergraduate course of at least 2 year’s duration
    • You cannot be undertaking a repeat year of study at the same level unless evidence of exceptional circumstances eg serious illness is provided (in which case this condition may be waived)

Orchestral outreach, Prison and Probation Service, Schools, Day Care settings, health settings, Youth Service, Local Authority, Arts Councils, Adult Education, Multicultural Arts groups.
