The institution has established several research programmes with the goal of reinforcing or exploring new subjects of study in order to expand the worldwide impact of its research infrastructures. To highlight this innovative cross-disciplinary strategy, four new academic chairs were created. Sorbonne is one of the 23 European research institutions that comprise the League of European Research Universities, which also includes Cambridge and Oxford.
