About

With campuses in Surrey, Richmond, Cloverdale, Whalley, and Langley, Kwantlen Polytechnic University (sometimes abbreviated as KPU) is a public undergraduate polytechnic university in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. The establishment of Kwantlen Polytechnic in 1981 was mainly due to the need to expand vocational training in Fraser Valley. It was converted into a university college in 1995. In order to designate Kwantlen University College as a polytechnic university, the provincial government declared its intention to modify the University Act in 2008. KPU started operating as a university on September 1, 2008, after the legislation renamed the university college to a university that gained royal assent on May 29. On October 24, 2008, KPU joined the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC). The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), the Colleges and Institutes of Canada (CICan), the International Association of Universities (IAU), the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE), and the Canadian University Press (CUP) are all affiliated with KPU.

KPU offers undergraduate and vocational education in more than 140 different programs, including Bachelor's degrees, associate degrees, diplomas, certifications, apprenticeships, and citations. The institution primarily functions as a polytechnic university for undergraduates, but it also has a vocational program that offers apprenticeships in skilled crafts, as well as diplomas in vocational education for skilled technicians and employees in support roles in professions like criminology, nursing, medicine, accounting, and business administration.
