Fun Things To Do In Munich Every Year

things to do in munich

When I think about Germany, I think about two cities; Berlin and Munich. We may have spoken to you about the top things to do in Berlin and the cost of living in Berlin in 2021. Someone once said…New Year’s Eve in Germany is just Diwali in India. Apart from looking at the sunset from Berlin’s TV Tower, the one thing on my bucket list is watching fireworks from the same TV Tower. When it comes to Munich, the first thing that comes to mind is the youthful streets filled with adrenaline and excitement. Munich is all about citadels, castles, open spaces and long roads. I can understand why one’s top places to visit would be Munich. Do you also feel like visiting Munich? Let’s curb the excitement till the pandemic is over..and make a list of the things to do in Munich…at least for now.

Things To Do In Munich Post Pandemic

Karneval and Events

Munich is something else in December. The chilly winter streets smell like food, fireworks and Fasching! They say you exceed your appetite in winter and that is certainly true in Germany. Every street corner in Munich smells of spicy dinners and late night beer parties.

Follow the traditional parades,  and the Duke Kashmir that leads the carnival with a horse!

There’s something for everyone. The academics  have been celebrating Munich’s Olympic Village for the past 4 decades. This, all old cafeteras will turn into a forest for four days..abiding by the theme of “Magic Forest” for the year 2021.

If you’re still in your youth and you can enjoy electronic music next to a massive beach in Munich. Especially on new year’s eve or any weekend in the month of December. Make friends while the live music plays, dance to the beat of the spinning and have beer with your closest friends.

Experience Umadum Munich

One of the top things to do in Munich is experience sitting in the world’s biggest transportable big wheel. Take a brief look at the Alps, the Olympic Complex and Frauenkirche cathedral. With a capacity of 16 people, the air conditioned gondolas offer you some of the best views in the whole of Germany. The sights offered by Umadum Munich feels like a ridge through heaven. With thousands of church’s lakes, green landscapes and skyscrapers all in one

Each ride costs 12 euros and is completely environmentally friendly with green power and energy recovery.

Things To Do In Munich In Summer

Visit The Oldest And Largest Farmer’s Market

Munich’s biggest and oldest farmer’s market, Viktualienmarkt, is the landmark in the heart of the city. Going about the market takes you back to the 1800s, where a garland of sausages were displayed outside shops, men wearing hats and pushing fruit carts with a sight of families buying groceries for dinner. Just like Tesco, Publix, Walmart and other grocery stores famous across the world, the Viktualienmarkt is a brand in Munich.

Visit A Garden Bigger Than Central Park!

The Englischer Garten or the English Garden is one of the largest city parks in the whole of Europe, yes larger than even Dublin’s Phoenix Park. The English Garden spreads across Munich’s City Centre to The northeastern city limits.

Locally known as the green oasis, the park has some key areas one must touch down. This includes the  Chinesischer Turm or the Chinese Tower, a landmark of the English Garden. It is mostly famous for being adjacent to the massive German Beer Gardens. The Chinese Tower is also known as the Asian Influence, for it also includes a Japanese Teahouse built in the 1800s.

While you’re strolling through the gardens of Munich, you must take a break to drink a pint with your friend. What a better place to drink beer on a hot summer noon than under the shade of old chestnut trees? The German beer Gardens are filled with restaurants and shacks all built in the 19th century.

Bike Around The City

Visit Munich old towns, palaces and castles in the afternoon. Ride down on the banks of river Isar, click photos along the way and take a stop at Feldmochinger See, Munich’s largest lake within city limits. Depending on your idea of fun, you could either enjoy the open area and sit by the rocks or take a dip.

Either that, or you could bike your bike and take a stroll around Starnberg Lake. This lake is one of the most picturesque landscapes in Munich. Offering scenic views of the Alps and the highest peak of Germany, Zugspitze.

Add Sightseeings In Your Things To Do In Munich Bucket List

Schloss Neuschwanstein or Castle Neuschwanstein

Visiting the 213 feet tall, Neuschwanstein Castle is an experience of a lifetime. The castle was built in 1892, a quarter century after it’s foundation was laid. With a capacity of 200 rooms, the castle was built just to prove a point. Ludwig II said his intentions with the Neuschwanstein was to rebuild an old castle ruin in the authentic style of the old German Knights.

What makes this castle even more special is that Neuschwanstein is believed to be the real inspiration behind Disney’s iconic Cinderella.

Wait Till The Oktoberfest Commences

Watching and being a part of the Oktoberfest has been one of the top things to do in Munich.  The 16 day festival initially started as the marriage ceremony of Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese. The first event to take place was outside the city gates and the wedding party was such a hit that Prince Ludwig was asked to continue celebrating the wedding in the following year. .

Today the wedding ceremony and celebration has transformed into a globally known festival with more than 7 million people attending and participating. There are a number of beer tents at the Theresienwiese grounds. The festival is the reason why so many people travel to Germany every year.
