Program Overview

The Master of Professional Accounting is a conversion taught master's qualification that provides graduates with the skills, knowledge, and competencies to be a highly effective accountant in both domestic and international organisations. Through applied research, you will gain an understanding of the theoretical considerations facing the Accounting profession, while developing the confidence to challenge existing practices, and develop innovative new ways to solve issues in the field.

The qualification is aligned with professional accounting bodies in the industry (such as the Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ), Certified Practicing Accountants Australia (CPA Australia), and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)), allowing graduates to gain provisional membership.

The Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) is also part of the Business Taught Masters programme, providing opportunities to pursue new career pathway options. Students with a background in any discipline may apply and no prior experience in Commerce or Accounting is required.

Course Content
The MPA is a 240-point qualification which consists of compulsory courses followed by up to 60 points in elective courses taught over five terms, in ten-week blocks.

The programme can be completed within 21–23 months of full-time study, depending on your start date, or up to 4 years part-time.
- February start: 21 months full-time duration.
- July start: 22-23 months full-time duration.

- Note that enrolments to MBAZ680 and MBAZ681 are subject to an application process and approval from the Head of Department.

Entry Requirement

A bachelor's degree with at least a B Grade Point Average in 300-level courses is required. Your enrolment will be approved taking into account the relevance and standard of previous studies and experience.

English language requirements for postgraduate qualifications

If you want to study towards a postgraduate qualification, eg a Postgraduate Diploma, Masters, or PhD you must have one of the following:

ENGLISH TEST	MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
IELTS Academic	An average score of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in reading, writing, listening and speaking
TOEFL iBT	Total minimum score of 90, minimum score of 19 in reading, writing and listening. Please note UC only accepts TOEFL iBT scores from a single test date, not MyBest scores.
TOEFL PBT	With a minimum score of 575 and TWE with a minimum score of 4.5
CCEL EAP	Level 2 with a minimum B+ grade
CAE or CPE	Score of 176 with a minimum of 169 in reading, writing, listening and speaking
Pearson Test of English (Academic)	PTE with an overall score of 58 and no PTE communicative skills score below 50
NZCEL	Level 5
FluentIQ	Overall mark of 8/10 with nothing less than a 7 being scored in a single category.
LanguageCert	C1 Expert IESOL (LRWS) with HIGH PASS
NZAPA	English New Zealand Accredited Pathway Assessment Level 3 (with no skill lower than Level 2)
